about the producer :

Simone Carneiro de Morais Sousa, a fourth-generation coffee grower, has redefined the legacy of Fazenda Santa Quitéria, a historic estate established in 1889 in Cambuquira, Minas Gerais, nestled in the prestigious Mantiqueira de Minas region. Taking the helm in 2001 with her husband, Artur Queiroz de Sousa, Simone broke from the farm’s male-dominated tradition, driven by memories of her childhood spent learning from her grandfather and assisting her parents, Dr. Edson de Morais and Maria Umbelina Carneiro de Morais. Her determination led her to unify the farm’s ownership by acquiring her brothers’ shares, setting the stage for a new era of innovation and excellence in specialty coffee production.
In 2008, Simone, Artur, and their son Gustavo embraced a quality-focused transformation, adopting rigorous traceability and specialty coffee standards after completing a management program. This pivot birthed the Santa Quitéria Cafés Especiais brand, earning global acclaim in 2012 when five of their coffee lots ranked among Brazil’s top 38 in the Cup of Excellence Natural Late Harvest competition, with three as finalists. Following Gustavo’s untimely passing in 2016, Simone’s daughter, Sylvia Morais de Sousa Tinoco, and son-in-law, Carlos Fasane Tinoco, joined the farm, carrying the family’s vision into its fifth generation. Varieties like Arara, Yellow Catuai, and Red Catuai continue to shine in regional contests, reinforcing the farm’s reputation for exceptional quality.
Simone’s impact extends far beyond her farm. In 2017, she founded AMECAFÉ Mantiqueira, an association empowering women coffee entrepreneurs in the Serra da Mantiqueira, reflecting her dedication to social equity and sustainable practices. Her leadership complements the Mantiqueira de Minas region’s status as a Protected Geographical Indication, renowned for its distinctive, high-caliber coffees. Through collaborations with brands like Ally Coffee and 3 Corações’ Projeto Florada, Simone’s resilience, market insight, and hope for favorable harvests ensure Fazenda Santa Quitéria remains a beacon of Brazilian coffee innovation, guided by family unity and a commitment to excellence.
