About This Coffee
São Luiz Estate Coffee is rooted in almost 100 years of agricultural tradition in Carmo do Paranaíba, within Brazil’s renowned Cerrado Mineiro region — the first coffee origin in Brazil to receive Denomination of Origin status.
The family’s coffee story began in the late 1960s, when Manoel Velloso dos Reis recognised the potential of coffee cultivation. His son, Fausto Velloso, later professionalised the operation, introducing drip irrigation and placing an increasing emphasis on quality.
Today, Ana Cecília Velloso Branco and her brother Lúcio represent the next generation, combining the family’s agricultural heritage with a modern approach to specialty coffee. Ana Cecília joined the business in 2014 after almost a decade working in architecture, drawn by the quality potential of the family’s coffees. She now leads international sales and marketing, developing relationships with specialty coffee buyers around the world.
Origin Profile
Located in Cerrado Mineiro, São Luiz benefits from a terroir defined by altitude, clearly defined seasons and advanced farming practices. These conditions, together with the family’s focus on quality and traceability, produce coffees characterised by clarity, sweetness and consistency.
The farm’s approach brings together traditional knowledge and modern agricultural practices, with each lot reflecting the family’s continuing commitment to producing distinctive, traceable specialty coffees.
Pulped Natural Process
This coffee is produced using the pulped natural process, one of the processing methods used at São Luiz alongside natural and washed coffees. The process preserves some of the fruit surrounding the coffee seed during drying, helping develop sweetness and body while maintaining the clean character associated with carefully prepared coffees.
