Quality and Impact
Rugali Washing Station has rapidly gained a reputation for exceptional washed coffees used in international competitions, placing Nyamasheke on the specialty coffee map. The station sources cherries from over 1,100 smallholder farmers, all hand-sorted to ensure premium quality.
Processing Method
-
Fully washed with double fermentation lasting about 12 hours in clean water.
-
After fermentation, coffee is hand-sorted to remove defects before drying.
-
Parchments dry on raised African beds for around 30 days, regularly turned to ensure even airflow and prevent moisture buildup.
-
A serpentine grading channel separates parchment by density, improving overall consistency.
Commitment
Rugali combines traditional knowledge with innovative practices to produce consistently high-quality coffee. Its success supports local farmer livelihoods while elevating Rwanda’s reputation in global specialty coffee markets
